15 of The Best Female Rap Verses
I initially planned on dropping this list I've been working on for some time now last month to celebrate Women's History Month. However, thanks to procrastination I decided it was best for the people to dive in now; no better time than the present, right?
It's interesting to note the kind-of rollercoaster trend in popularity & success the female rap genre has had. From the late 80s to early 00s full of talented female emcees, to a dry spell shattered by the rise of Nicki Minaj in the 2010s, to the 2020s where we have a plethora of talented women in the game. In the male-dominated field of hip-hop & rap, it's an uphill battle for women to stand out, but these ladies made damn sure they were gonna shine. Let's get into it! In no particular order whatsoever, here are 15 of the best female rap verses of all time. Be sure to check out the corresponding playlist filled with a slew of bangers led by female rappers on Apple Music & Spotify! Heads up: graphic language below.
15. Female Goat - Lakeyah ft. City Girls
Dope song from some of the newer female rappers in Lakeyah, but the stand-out verse here comes from JT. JT's flow and pen were both on point in this verse.
Notable bars: Niggas act like bitches so we put him on a skirt. Nigga think he on that he gon' end up on a shirt. Made him eat my pussy, then I put it in a verse.
14. Boom Pt. 2 - Mello Buckzz ft. Latto, Amari Blaze, Moni Da G & Kashh Mirr
Instant banger from Chicago native Mello Buckzz. The song went so hard that it's pretty safe to say the good ole House of Mouse made the artists change their hook from "I got my meeska, mooska, mouskatool" to what we hear now...Disney does not play. The notable verse here comes from Latto on the remix who's been on a tear lately with the features in true Nicki Minaj fashion. She's shaping up to be one of her better sons hahahaha.
Notable bars: Caught her down bad on the block, and her ass got milly rocked. This a glock, not a prop. What's a opp? Bitch stop.
13. Knuck if You Buck - Crime Mobb
Crime Mobb was here for a good time not a long time, but my God did they gift us with some hits during their run. Back in my day (damn, I'm old yall?) this song was responsible for more than a few brawls in the middle of the juke parties. I'm sure by now you know the verse to highlight here comes from one of the two female rappers in the group, Princess. Admittedly, I know more of her verse than I do anyone else's on the song.
Notable bars: I wish a hater would get crunk up on this Crime Mob crew. Now enough is enough boy, rough and get stuffed boy. Luck is a must boy, knuck if you buck boy!
(I see you shaking your lil dreads as you rapped the verse in your head.)
12. Touch It Remix - Busta Rhymes ft. Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliot, Rah Digga, Lloyd Banks, Papoose & DMX
RIP DMX. Who else remembers seeing this on the top 10 literally every day on BET's 106 & Park? #MakeBETGreatAgain. This song is full of amazing verses, I think every artist came and delivered. Even singer Mary J. Blige got on the track and she said she wasn't singing, but you about to get these bars though. However, the standout verse here goes to Rah Digga. I hope she's doing well, the last time I saw her was when she starred in the horror movie 13 Ghosts (a decent horror movie, scared the hell out of me if I'm being honest)
Notable bars: He thinking 'cause he spend a lil dough I'm gon' fuck. If money ain't a thing, I'm saying let a bitch know. Type to empty your account, how far you willing to go?
11. U Know What's Up - Donell Jones ft. Left Eye
RIP Left Eye. I remember when I first heard this song at the tender age of 6 and was immediately drawn in. Donell Jones delivered a cool & catchy summer vibe r&b song and who better to hop on and give a verse than the Crazy, Sexy, Cool bandmate of TLC herself, Left Eye? Her flow was impeccable but what really takes the cake is the line below coupled with the fact that a few years prior she infamously burned down the $1.3 million dollar home of her then-boyfriend, Atlanta Falcons player, Andre Rison.
Notable bars: Don't let another one get near me if you wanna be true, and show me that nobody else can do it better than you. So if you serious, I'm curious to see what you got. But love is furious 'cause I believe in blowing up spots.
10. Hot Boyz Remix - Missy Elliot ft. Nas, Eve, Q-Tip & Lil Mo
Honesty hour: I was prepared to talk about Eve's 'Blow Ya Mind' for this entry but the spirit moved me to talk about one of the best-featured verses from a female rapper thus far. It's a crime that the remix isn't on any streaming services. Hell, even Missy Elliot is telling them the people need it! Eve did what needed to be done here, and while there are so many lines from Blow Ya Mind, nothing is topping this from 'Hot Boyz Remix'.
Notable bars: Gangster, true to your gang, street master. You the one I need when there's beef, street blaster. Ain't afraid to stop a cat plus pop a cat. Soldier, cash money rule your world, what's topping that?
9. Best On Earth - Russ ft. Bia
The beat of this song is instantly captivating, and the bed creaking sounds are an excellent addition to this song. Props to producers Boi-1da & Jahaan Swee. Russ has a very smooth flow that is quickly followed up by a dope hook from Bia. But she doesn't stop there, she went on to give a great verse with an effortless flow. This is arguably her best verse to date.
Notable bars: I think I'm finna break him, it's gone be quick. He know I ride that dick till I get seasick. Wavy lil bitch that talk that East shit, nasty. But don't put nothing past me. Now I got the pussy and the power if you ask me.
8. I'll Be - Foxy Brown Ft. Jay-Z
One of the best flows from a female emcee comes from Foxy Brown. I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed the rap beef between her and Kim because the women were trading bars back to back. Foxy's flow, delivery, bars, and voice shine here. I mean, there's gotta be a reason why Jay didn't spit a whole verse on here, right? Coward.
Notable bars: Don't deepthroat for c-notes, she floats. Murder she wrote and keeps the heat close. Firm nigga, we 'posed to be the illest on three coasts. Familia bigger than Icos. Y'all Danny DeVito's, small niggas. All I see is the panty eaters, that's all nigga.
I'd be remiss if I didn't add this line: My sex drive all night like a trucker. Stop playing with Big Foxy.
7. Tia Tamera - Doja Cat ft. Rico Nasty
Doja Cat is top 3 right now in terms of active female rappers and that is without a doubt. And not only does she excel in rap, but she is a multifaceted force to be reckoned with. She seamlessly crosses over between r&b, pop & hip-hop while keeping her music unique and authentic to her style. And at the end of the day, one thing you can guarantee Doja to do is to give you some bars. Her flow and lines in this verse are top-notch.
Notable bars: Cheese like pizzeria. Have a seat, bitch please, IKEA. From the Westside like Maria. I'm hot like grits, Madea. Beat the pussy up, call PETA. I rock the boat like Aaliyah, I rock a bob like Sia. Doja on deck bitch re-up. Thick in the thighs, thick in the waist. Thick in the right motherfucking places. Hits like Venus, Serena. He wanna eat up the caesar.
6. You Don't Know - Missy Elliot Ft. Lil Mo
Missy Elliot is one of the greatest artists of all time. As a rapper, singer, songwriter & producer, Missy wore many hats and dominated every single one of them. It was next to impossible to just choose one song and a few lines at that, but here's where we landed.
Notable bars: You been sucking his dick, tasting my clit. Just a side bitch on the side bitch. I'm the prize bitch, keep it silent. Make me violent, you'll be dialing...9-1-1 tell the family.
5. Ready or Not - Fugees
The great Lauryn Hill only dropped one solo album with more r&b tracks than rap but is still held in high regard as one of the greatest femcees of all time. Her projects with Fugees and 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' solidified her GOAT status. She went on to win five Grammy awards as a solo artist (on top of the two she had already earned with Fugees) making her the first female artist to win five or more awards in a single night and the first rapper to win the coveted Album of the Year award. That being said, I had to go with one of her most memorable verses here. She may not show up to a concert on time, if at all, but our girl showed up and showed out on this verse.
Notable bars: But I'll hex you with some witches' brew if you do-do. Voodoo, I can do what you do easy. Believe me, frontin' niggas give me heebie-jeebies. So while you imitating Al Capone, I'll be Nina Simone and defecating on your microphone.
4. Tomorrow 2 - Glorilla ft. Cardi B
Again, I started drafting this article a good while ago, and back then I had it down to either Cardi's verse on Offset's 'Clout' or on Pardi's 'Backin' It Up' but then we got the absolute banger that is Glorilla's 'Tomorrow 2'. There are simply no words to be said about this verse. I hate to make the comparison (I don't, I love it actually) but this verse for Cardi is equivalent to Nicki's verse on 'Monster'. So many things were accomplished in this verse by Cardi B, you have to give her props.
Notable bars: Both you bitches pussy, I think y'all should scissor. She bought a chain, I bought the same one even bigger. She throwing shots that's how I know I got her triggered. I don't speak dog hoe, I don't care what no bitch say. I stay on her mind I got condos in that bitch head. She say she don't fuck with me, who said that you can hoe? That nigga a munch and he gon' eat me like a mango.
3. Savage (Remix) - Megan Thee Stallion ft. Beyonce
As if nabbing the Beyonce feature wasn't enough, Meg went on to win 3 Grammys the following year. I remember this song coming out right before the summer of 2020. We were on lockdown, but that didn't stop the people from running this song all the way up (word to Fat Joe). TikTok challenges went ablaze and Meg's career continued to skyrocket. If I'm being frank, I almost wanted to add Beyonce to the list for this verse or her verse on 'Mood 4 Eva' but that wouldn't have been fair would it? Meg's flow, wordplay, and cadence in the added verse here are something to be studied.
Notable bars: Bougie, he say the way that thang movie it's a movie. I told lil bro he gotta keep it low, leave me the room key. I done bled the block and now it's hot, bitch I'm Tunechi. A mood and I'm moody (ah).
2. Monster - Kanye West Ft. Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Bon Iver & Nicki Minaj
Queen of rap, argue with literally anybody else. There is no denying Nicki Minaj's impact and soon I'll drop an entire article dedicated to some of her best verses that I think go unnoticed. As a long-time fan of her's it was difficult to pick a verse. The obvious choice may seem like 'Monster', but she's dropped quite a few bars that rival the perfection that she gave here. Nonetheless, I remember the day this dropped, and hearing some of my favorite rappers at the time get absolutely washed by the up-and-coming rapper at the end of the song was crazy. The multiple flows, the way she leaned into the alter egos, brilliantly addressed the criticisms she garnered, and delivered double/triple entendres with ease was and still is insane. There has yet to be a verse from another female rapper to top this.
Notable bars: But really really, I don't give a f-u-c-k. Forget Barbie, fuck Nicki, she-she's fake. She on a diet but her pockets eating cheesecake. And I'll say, Bride of Chucky, it's Child's Play. Just killed another career, it's a mild day. Besides Ye, they can't stand beside me. I think me you and Am should ménage Friday.
1. Quiet Storm (Remix) - Mobb Deep ft. Lil Kim
The original Queen of Rap and one of the Hall-of-Famers of the genre. Kim is Goated and has earned her place at the top. I was between a few songs for her selection as there were so many impeccable verses to choose from. The honorable mentions for Lil Kim's selection consisted of: 'Wait A Minute', 'Came Back for You' 'Crush on You', 'Queen Bitch' and 'All About The Benjamins'. Ultimately I had to go with one of the hardest verses and flows she gave us.
Notable bars: Hot damn hoe, here we go again. Light as a rock bitch, hard as a cock bitch. This shit knock for blocks through hardtops in the parking lots, where my nigga Roc like to spark a lot. My Brooklyn style speaks for itself. Like a wrestler, another notch under my belt. The embezzler, chrome treasurer. The u-n-o competitor, I'm ten steps ahead of ya.
Women make music more fun and I hope this article proves that point when it comes to rap. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't into the many rap beefs going on between the many female rappers now because we're getting bars left and right and that's hip-hop.
